GMESS (Gencon Messages Editing Tools) is a Windows 10/11 command-line toolkit for extracting the text messages from a GENCON firmware HEX file into a UTF‑8 text file, editing them, and repacking a new firmware HEX.
Included tools:
• ghex2txt.exe — firmware HEX → messages TXT
• gtxt2hex.exe — messages TXT → new firmware HEX
• gtran.exe — reuse an older translation when translating a newer firmware (byte‑exact reuse; not machine translation)
• gbidi.exe — normalize BiDi wrappers + shade marks in the messages text file (Hebrew LCD types 2/3)
• gfonts.exe — report CGRAM slot usage (0..7)
Editing rules: edit only inside the shade marks (░…░ / ▒…▒); do not change row count or row length; keep UTF‑8.
After installing, use Start Menu → GMESS → GMESS Command Prompt.
